In a major operation against illegal timber trade, personnel of the Keonjhar forest division conducted a raid on the house of Jaimani Mahanta in Nuapada village under the Patna range on Thursday. The forest staff seized a significant quantity of illegal sal timber valued at more than Rs 1.5 lakh.

Details of the Seizure

The raid led to the recovery of 60 pieces of sal timber of various sizes. The timber was found stored illegally on the premises, prompting immediate action by the forest officials. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Keonjhar, Dhanaraj HD, confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the source of the timber and to identify other individuals involved in the illegal activities. The authorities are probing the entire chain of illegal extraction, transportation, and storage of forest produce.
