Khargone: A heated argument over overtaking on the Indore-Ichhapur highway escalated into a violent road rage incident in Khargone district on Thursday, leaving a young man critically injured after he was allegedly struck and dragged by a car. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the victim being run over and dragged along the road.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred near a gurudwara in Kurawat village, falling under the Balwada police station limits. According to police reports, Chandan Goyal, a resident of Narwal in Ujjain district, was traveling to Omkareshwar with friends when a dispute erupted with the occupants of another car over overtaking and alleged reckless driving.
Police stated that both vehicles initially moved on after the altercation. However, they encountered each other again a short distance away, where the argument resumed and escalated. Goyal alleged that during the confrontation, the car driver deliberately drove towards him, knocking him down and dragging him for several meters.
Injuries and Hospitalization
Goyal sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital by his friends and local residents. He was later referred to Indore for advanced treatment. The nature of his injuries indicates a prolonged recovery period.
Viral CCTV Footage
The CCTV footage, which has gone viral on social media, graphically shows the vehicle hitting the victim and dragging him along the road. The clip has sparked outrage online, with many demanding strict action against the perpetrator.
Police Investigation
Balwada police station in-charge Ritesh Yadav confirmed that a case was registered on Thursday evening. The vehicle involved has been identified, and its registered owner traced as Sabir Khan. Police are currently verifying who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and identify all individuals involved.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course. The incident highlights the growing menace of road rage on highways, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better conflict resolution mechanisms.
