Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has underscored the importance of rehabilitation and community action in the renewed anti-drug campaign in the Union Territory. Addressing a high-level meeting on Thursday, Sinha stressed that a comprehensive approach involving prevention, treatment, and community engagement is essential to effectively tackle the drug menace.
Focus on Rehabilitation
The LG emphasized that rehabilitation of drug addicts is a top priority. He directed officials to strengthen de-addiction centers and ensure that they provide quality medical care, counseling, and skill development programs. Sinha called for a multi-pronged strategy that includes awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and villages to prevent drug abuse among youth.
Community Participation
Sinha urged community leaders, NGOs, and local bodies to actively participate in the campaign. He highlighted the need for a collective effort to identify and help those affected by substance abuse. The LG also announced that special task forces would be formed at the district level to monitor and coordinate anti-drug activities.
Strict Action Against Traffickers
While focusing on rehabilitation, Sinha also called for strict action against drug traffickers. He directed law enforcement agencies to intensify operations against the supply chain and dismantle networks involved in drug peddling. The administration aims to create a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir through these combined efforts.
