LMC Launches Rs 463 Crore Drainage Projects to Combat Monsoon Waterlogging
LMC's Rs 463 Crore Drainage Plan to Fight Waterlogging

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has initiated drainage projects worth Rs 463 crore to address waterlogging during the monsoon season. The comprehensive plan encompasses the construction and upgrade of drains, expansion of stormwater networks, and installation of flood pumping stations.

Major Projects Under the Plan

The centerpiece of the initiative is a Rs 300-crore Urban Flood and Storm Water Scheme project, designed to provide relief to low-lying areas including Aashiana, LDA Colony, Telibagh, Mansarovar, Alambagh, Krishnanagar, and Rajnikhand.

Under the Infrastructure Fund, 63 drains valued at Rs 58.15 crore are being constructed or revamped. Of these, 36 drains have been completed, while work on the remaining ones is ongoing.

Enhancing Pumping Capacity

To improve emergency response, LMC is investing nearly Rs 10 crore to strengthen pumping capacity. This includes a new pumping station near the zoo and a pump at Mallahi Tola. Backup diesel generator sets have been installed to ensure uninterrupted operations during power outages.

Additionally, seven more pumping stations worth Rs 56 crore have been approved, with tenders currently in process. Desilting of over 1,200 drains is also underway as part of monsoon preparedness measures.

Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar stated that these projects will significantly reduce waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
