Lok Adalat Summons Officials Over Road Repair Delay

The Permanent Lok Adalat has issued summons to multiple senior officials of the Punjab government regarding the prolonged delay in the relaying of a road in Sector 115 on the Kharar-Landran road. The officials directed to appear before the Lok Adalat on June 24 include the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary of the Local Government Department, the Managing Director of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the Executive Officer of the Kharar Municipal Council, and the Deputy Commissioner.

Petitioner's Grievance

The petitioner, Sukhminder Kaur, highlighted that the road has been in a damaged condition due to incomplete sewerage work and the accumulation of rainwater. She stated that the poor state of the road has caused significant inconvenience to residents and commuters, necessitating urgent repairs. The Lok Adalat took cognizance of the complaint and has summoned the officials to explain the reasons for the delay and to present a timeline for the completion of the repair work.

Background of the Issue

The stretch of road in Sector 115 has been a source of concern for local residents for several months. The sewerage work, which was initiated earlier, remains incomplete, leading to waterlogging and further deterioration of the road surface. Despite multiple complaints, the authorities have not taken adequate measures to address the situation. The petitioner approached the Permanent Lok Adalat seeking a swift resolution.
