Ludhiana Civic Chief's Surprise Inspections Under Clean Punjab

Ludhiana: Municipal Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta spearheaded a series of early-morning surprise inspections across the city on Monday as part of the 'Mission Clean Punjab' initiative. The hour-long drive commenced at 7 am and was monitored in real-time by Local Bodies Minister Harjot Singh Bains via video conferencing, ensuring direct oversight of ground-level operations.

City Divided into 10-km Stretches

To streamline sweeping operations, Gupta announced that Ludhiana has been segmented into distinct 10-kilometer stretches. Each stretch has been assigned to a specific official, who will be held responsible for its maintenance. To maximize efficiency, all civic departments—including the health branch, buildings and roads branch, operation and maintenance (O&M) cell, and the tehbazaari wing—have been ordered to work in close coordination.

Key Areas Inspected

The field inspections covered several critical commercial and transit hubs, including areas near a private mall, the books market, the civic body’s Zone A office, the scooter market near Model Town, Cheema Chowk, Division No. 3 Chowk, Partap Chowk, and other arterial locations. Simultaneously, joint commissioners Vineet Kumar and Amanpreet Singh, along with zonal commissioners Neeraj Jain, Gurpal Singh, and Jasdev Singh Sekhon, led parallel inspections within their respective jurisdictions.

Review Meeting and Warnings

Following the field visits, the civic body chief convened a review meeting with joint commissioners, zonal commissioners, chief sanitary inspectors, and the health officer. During the meeting, Gupta issued stern warnings to the staff, stating that immediate disciplinary action will be taken against any official if cleanliness anomalies are detected on the ground. Civic officials confirmed that these surprise checks will continue over the coming days.

Appeal to Residents

Additionally, Gupta urged residents to support the civic body’s efforts by refraining from dumping waste and garbage at open sites or vacant plots. She emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining cleanliness across the city.
