A 22-year-old retail worker from Ludhiana, who disappeared after telling his family he was going to report his snatched mobile phone to the police, has been found dead under disputed circumstances. The body of Karan Kumar, a salesman at a shoe store, was discovered on Monday in a vacant plot in Tharike village on the outskirts of Ludhiana.
Police Suspect Alcohol Poisoning
Local police have suggested that Karan may have died due to alcohol poisoning. However, his family has rejected this theory and is alleging foul play, demanding a thorough murder investigation. Karan, who resided with his aunt in Tharike, left his home on Sunday afternoon after claiming that his mobile phone had been stolen. When he failed to return, relatives initiated a search. The following day, police informed them that they had located his body nearby.
No Visible Injuries Found
Sadar Station House Officer Inspector Jagdev Singh stated that a preliminary medical examination revealed no visible external injuries on the body. “Our inquiries reveal that the man was last seen consuming alcohol, and we suspect he died of excessive drinking,” the officer said. “However, just to be sure, we will wait for the autopsy report.”
No Official Complaint Filed
The inspector added that initial findings indicated Karan had lost his mobile phone two days prior to his disappearance, but no official theft complaint had been lodged with the police. Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death pending the results of the post-mortem examination.
