The Madurai city police have implemented temporary traffic diversions and parking restrictions for the Chithirai festival events scheduled on April 28 and 29. Large numbers of devotees and members of the public from the city and surrounding areas are expected to attend.

Thirukalyanam on April 28

For the Thirukalyanam event on April 28, no goods vehicles are permitted to ply on all four Aavani Moola streets from 10pm on Monday to 3pm. On the Masi streets, goods vehicles are not allowed on Keezha Maasi Street, the venue of the Digvijayam event, during the night. On all four Aavani Moola streets, no public vehicles are permitted to be parked from 10pm on Monday to 2pm on Tuesday.

Therottam on April 29

On all four Maasi streets surrounding the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, from 10pm on Tuesday until the conclusion of the Therottam on Wednesday, no vehicles, including two-wheelers, are permitted to be parked. Throughout the day on Wednesday, no vehicles are permitted to ply on Keezha Masi Street and Keezha Maarat Street. On the other Maasi streets, vehicles are permitted during allowed hours. Devotees coming to witness the Therottam may park their vehicles on the four Maarat streets without causing obstruction to the public or traffic.

Parking Arrangements

For vehicles arriving with permission passes, parking arrangements have been made from 6am on Tuesday. From 5am on Tuesday, those coming for the Thirukalyanam without a car permission pass, as well as two-wheeler owners, are permitted to park their vehicles on the East, South and North Maasi streets without causing obstruction to traffic or pedestrians. No vehicles are permitted to be parked on Keezha Aavani Moola Street.

Madurai city police have requested devotees, members of the public and the business community to cooperate with the arrangements.
