Delhi Police have made another arrest in the Malviya Nagar fire case, taking the total number of accused arrested to four. The latest suspect was apprehended late on Friday night from a hideout in Uttar Pradesh, according to officials.
Details of the Arrest
The accused has been identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Ghaziabad. He was allegedly involved in the illegal storage of hazardous materials at the building where the fire broke out. Police said Kumar had been on the run since the incident.
Senior police officers confirmed that Kumar's role was crucial in the chain of events leading to the fire. He is believed to have supplied chemicals to the factory without proper safety measures.
Investigation Progress
The fire at the three-storey building in Malviya Nagar on June 3 claimed 12 lives and injured 15 others. The blaze was caused by a short circuit, but investigations revealed that the building was being used to store inflammable materials illegally.
So far, four people have been arrested, including the building owner and two factory supervisors. Police are also questioning several others to determine if there was any criminal negligence.
Delhi Police Commissioner has assured that all those responsible will be brought to justice. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident thoroughly.
Legal Proceedings
The arrested accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and relevant provisions of the Factories Act. They have been remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
Authorities have also issued notices to the municipal corporation and the fire department to explain lapses in safety inspections. The Delhi government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
