Bhopal: A 50-year-old man was crushed to death allegedly by an unidentified heavy vehicle near the Government High School in Gandhi Nagar on Monday night while he was returning from work after purchasing grocery items. Gandhi Nagar police have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the deceased, Sundar Gaikwad, 50, lived in Vikas Nagar Colony behind the Government High School in Gandhi Nagar and worked in a private job. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM when Gaikwad was walking home. A speeding heavy vehicle struck him from behind, causing fatal injuries. The driver fled the scene immediately.
Investigation Underway
A local resident later informed his son, Sunil Gaikwad, about the incident. Sunil rushed to the spot and found his father dead. He later lodged a complaint against the unidentified vehicle driver at Gandhi Nagar police station. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are scanning CCTV footage in the area to identify the vehicle.
The body has been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem. The family has been informed about the legal proceedings. Police are also questioning witnesses to gather more information about the vehicle's registration number.
This tragic incident highlights the need for better road safety measures in residential areas. Residents have demanded installation of speed breakers and better street lighting on the stretch.
