A tragic accident occurred on Monday night on the Dedan-Raydi road in Khambha taluka of Amreli district, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man and serious injuries to his cousin. The incident took place when their motorcycle plunged into an unguarded ditch at an under-construction bridge. Police have registered a case against the contractor for alleged negligence.
Details of the Incident
The victims were identified as Rahul Dhadhal, 30, and his cousin Ghanshyam Vala, 22, residents of a village in Khambha taluka. According to the complaint filed by Ghanshyam at Khambha police station, the two were heading to Dedan village for refreshments when they passed the under-construction bridge between Dedan and Raydi villages. The road stretch was dusty and uneven, and visibility was poor due to darkness.
Rahul allegedly mistook the excavation area for a road bump as there were no diversion boards, reflectors, barricades, or warning signs. Their motorcycle then plunged into the ditch. Both riders were thrown off the vehicle. Ghanshyam suffered severe head injuries and a fracture in his right leg and lost consciousness, while Rahul sustained critical injuries.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
After regaining consciousness, Ghanshyam called a relative, Dilip, who arranged emergency help. Both men were rushed to the hospital, where Rahul was declared dead. Following the postmortem, his body was handed over to his family.
Legal Action
The case has been registered under Sections 105 and 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the contractor responsible for the construction site. Police said further investigation is underway to determine responsibility for the alleged safety lapses at the site.
This incident highlights the dangers posed by unguarded construction sites and the need for strict adherence to safety norms to prevent such tragedies.
