The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for 2026 officially commenced across Mizoram on Saturday, with full momentum expected from Monday, according to official sources.
Door-to-Door Verification Drive
A statement from the office of the state chief electoral officer (CEO) confirmed that booth level officers (BLOs) in several districts have begun comprehensive house-to-house visits within their designated polling areas. This month-long door-to-door verification and enrolment drive is scheduled to conclude on June 28.
During these visits, BLOs are distributing two copies of the enumeration form to each registered voter, which will facilitate the preparation of a new electoral roll. Voters are instructed to retain one copy for their records, while the second filled-out form will be collected by the BLOs. Officials emphasized that BLOs are tasked with assisting voters in accurately completing the forms to ensure a smooth process.
Online Application Submission Introduced
For the first time, the Election Commission of India is implementing online application submission for the SIR. After collecting the completed forms, BLOs will upload voters' details directly into the online database using a designated BLO mobile application. This digital step aims to enhance efficiency and accuracy in updating the electoral rolls.
Currently, the total number of registered voters in Mizoram's electoral roll for 2025 stands at 8,75,068. The electorate comprises 4,51,671 female voters and 4,23,397 male voters. The ongoing intensive revision is expected to update and reflect the most accurate electoral demographic of the state, the statement added.
Challenges in Remote Areas
State election officials reported that BLOs in south Mizoram's Lawngtlai and Lunglei districts are preparing to visit remote villages that are accessible only by boat. These BLOs have been equipped with life jackets to ensure safety during their journeys.
