Motihari Police Arrest 3 Drug Smugglers, Seize 10.54kg Opium

In a joint operation, Motihari police and the Special Task Force (STF) apprehended three interstate drug smugglers and recovered 10.54 kilograms of opium near the Nursingbaba temple on NH-27 under the Dumariyaghat police station area in East Champaran on Saturday. The authorities also seized 4 kilograms of ganja, 1.1 kilograms of doda, and Rs 14,300 in cash during the operation.

Interrogation Leads to More Arrests

Superintendent of Police (SP) Swarn Prabhat stated that during interrogation, the arrested smugglers disclosed that they had obtained the consignment from Jitendra Chaudhary, a former panchayat samiti member from Sareya village under the Gobindganj police station area. Acting on this information, a police team raided Sareya panchayat and apprehended four women: Sunita Devi (32), Rinki Kumari (25), Sunita Devi (25), and Nanhki Devi (30). The raid yielded additional quantities of opium, hashish, and ganja.

Details of the Arrested Smugglers

The three interstate smugglers were identified as Sajan Kumar Yadav (21) and Munna Kumar Yadav (24), both residents of Chatra district in Jharkhand, and Anuj Kumar Sao (27) from Gaya district. They were intercepted while traveling in a white car, with the contraband cleverly concealed inside the vehicle. Jitendra Chaudhary has also been arrested and charged in the case.

The SP, who oversaw the operation, confirmed that an FIR has been registered at Dumariyaghat police station against all arrested individuals under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation is ongoing to uncover further links in the drug trafficking network.
