Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights Major Conservation and Development Projects

The Madhya Pradesh state cabinet, in a significant meeting held on Tuesday, has given its approval for a comprehensive financial package aimed at bolstering wildlife conservation and rural development across the state. The decisions encompass a multi-crore investment in tiger reserve buffer zones, irrigation infrastructure, and extended welfare schemes for tribal communities.

Rs 390 Crore Allocated for Tiger Reserve Buffer Zone Development

In a landmark move for wildlife protection, the cabinet has sanctioned Rs 390 crore to be utilized over the next five fiscal years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. This substantial funding is dedicated to the development and enhancement of buffer zones within all nine tiger reserves located across Madhya Pradesh. These buffer zones are critical areas surrounding the core tiger habitats, designed to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and support ecological balance.

According to an official release from the state government, the newly approved scheme will facilitate a wide array of conservation activities. Key works to be undertaken include the installation of chain link fencing in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent encroachment and poaching. Additionally, the funds will support comprehensive wildlife protection measures, pasture development to ensure adequate grazing grounds, and the creation of sustainable water sources for animals.

The initiative also prioritizes fire safety protocols to safeguard forest areas, along with wildlife treatment and regular health check-up programs to monitor and maintain animal well-being. Furthermore, skill upgradation for forest staff and local communities involved in conservation efforts is a crucial component of this scheme, aiming to enhance overall management and protection capabilities.

Approval of Irrigation Projects and Tribal Welfare Schemes

In parallel decisions, the cabinet has approved two major irrigation projects in the Narmadapuram district, with an estimated combined expense of Rs 215.47 crore. These projects are expected to boost agricultural productivity and water resource management in the region, contributing to rural economic growth.

Moreover, the council of ministers has sanctioned a massive allocation of Rs 17,864 crore for the continuation of 17 existing schemes under various departments. These schemes, managed by the Tribal Affairs Department, Food and Civil Supplies Department, and Revenue Department, will be extended for the period from 2026-27 to 2030-31. This long-term funding ensures sustained support for critical social welfare programs.

Specifically, within this allocation, Rs 377.26 crore has been earmarked for 15 schemes under the Tribal Affairs Department. These initiatives include fee reimbursement for students from tribal communities, pre-examination training to enhance educational opportunities, scout guide programs for youth development, and transport and health services aimed at improving accessibility and well-being.

Land Amendment in Pachmarhi Town

In another administrative decision, the cabinet approved the amendment of 395.931 hectares of Nazul land currently controlled by the SADA (Special Area Development Authority) in Pachmarhi town. This amendment is likely to facilitate planned development and better land utilization in the scenic hill station, aligning with broader regional growth objectives.

These approvals underscore the state government's commitment to environmental conservation, agricultural advancement, and social welfare, setting a proactive agenda for the coming years.
