A 50-year-old autorickshaw driver, Amarnath Yadav, succumbed to his injuries at Sion Hospital in Mumbai five days after being admitted following a road accident. The incident occurred on June 5 when Yadav applied brakes suddenly, causing his autorickshaw to overturn on New Link Road.
Details of the Accident
According to a statement by Yadav's son, Rahul, the accident took place around 11:30 am. Yadav was driving from Malad to Jogeshwari on the southbound arm of New Link Road. Near the Oshiwara bus depot, he suddenly applied brakes, causing the vehicle to turn turtle. He sustained severe injuries to his forehead, under his eyes, nose, shoulder, ribs, hip, knee, and arm.
Medical Treatment and Death
Yadav was rushed to Sion Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Critical Care Unit (ICCU). After a few days, his condition improved slightly and he was moved to a general ward. However, his health deteriorated again, and he passed away at 11:30 pm on June 10. The Bangur Nagar Police were informed the next morning and recorded Rahul's statement.
Legal Implications
The Bangur Nagar Police had registered a case of rash driving and negligence against Yadav following the crash. With his death, the case will be closed. The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
