Mysuru: Deputy commissioner G Lakshimikanth Reddy on Monday announced that the district administration is committed to achieving 100% coverage of electorates during the ongoing voters mapping exercise. This initiative is being carried out as per the direction of the Election Commission, serving as a prelude to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The voters SIR is scheduled to commence on June 20, and the mapping exercise will continue until June 19.
Meeting with Political Parties
Chairing a meeting with representatives of various political parties at the ZP hall, the deputy commissioner discussed issues related to the voters mapping exercise. He stated that instructions have been given to assistant returning officers (AROs) to ensure that all voters who were previously left out of the mapping exercise are now included.
Current Status of Mapping
Mysuru district has a total of 2,975 polling booths, with 2,915 booth level officials (BLOs) appointed to carry out the exercise. The district recorded 18,14,074 voters during the 2002 revision, but the total electorate has increased to 27,99,931 voters as of January 2025. So far, 24,61,968 voters have been covered during the ongoing mapping exercise, representing 88% of the total electorate. The district administration has expedited the progress for the remaining 3,37,961 electorates, with mapping continuing until June 19.
Focus on Pre-SIR Mapping
The mapping exercise, conducted as pre-SIR, primarily focuses on comparing the electoral list as of January 1, 2025, with the list from 2002, when the last SIR was conducted. During this process, BLOs and enumerators verify the names of voters in both lists, and if a voter's name does not appear in the previous list, they verify it with the names of the voter's parents.
Assurances from Deputy Commissioner
The deputy commissioner addressed concerns raised by political party leaders, assuring that no eligible voters will be dropped during the exercise. He urged political parties to bring any issues regarding the mapping exercise directly to his attention by meeting him in person. He emphasized that no voter names will be deleted during the ongoing exercise.
Forms for Voters
During home visits, BLOs will provide each voter with two forms. One copy must be filled out and returned, while the second copy remains with the voter. Any adult member of a family can sign the forms. Once filled and signed, the voter's name will be included in the draft electoral roll.
The meeting was attended by additional deputy commissioner R Aishwarya, MDA in-charge commissioner KR Rakshith, and other officials.
