Nagaland Opens Rental Housing Complex for Urban Poor

In a significant step toward providing affordable homes with proper sanitation and essential services, the Nagaland government on Saturday inaugurated a rental housing complex for the urban poor in Chumoukedima. The project was launched by Zhaleo Rio, adviser to the state's urban development and municipal affairs department.

Details of the Housing Complex

The complex features 384 units of 1BHK apartments, with the initial rent fixed at Rs 1,000 per month for a period of three years. Zhaleo Rio stated that the initiative aims to offer affordable and dignified accommodation, along with essential services, for economically weaker sections, migrant workers, and low-income groups.

Rent Revision and Management

Any future revision of the rent will be undertaken by the Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC), subject to approval from the state government. This ensures that the rental rates remain reasonable and transparent.

During the event, Zhaleo Rio also flagged off sanitation vehicles for the district, emphasizing the need for proper waste management and sanitation practices. He highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in urban areas to improve the quality of life for residents.

The housing complex is part of a broader effort by the Nagaland government to address the housing needs of the urban poor and promote sustainable urban development. By providing affordable rental options, the government aims to reduce homelessness and improve living conditions for vulnerable populations.
