Nagpur: In a major crackdown on illegal sand mining and overloading, Bhiwapur Police seized 12 tipper trucks and 99 brass of sand, collectively valued at Rs3.52 crore on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement conducted checks near Jichkar Hall within Bhiwapur jurisdiction and discovered all trucks carrying sand far exceeding their licensed capacity.
Details of the Seizure
The confiscated vehicles include 12-wheel and 10-wheel tipper trucks registered in Maharashtra. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Harssh A Poddar and Additional SP Anil Mhaske. The police have registered cases against 23 individuals, including vehicle owners and drivers such as Prajwal Ambore, Rahul Birone, Swapnil Gautam, Kaif Sheikh, and others.
Legal Action
Four separate cases have been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Mines and Minerals Act, Environment Protection Act, and Motor Vehicles Act. The accused face charges related to illegal sand extraction, overloading, and violation of environmental norms.
This operation underscores the police department's commitment to curbing illegal mining activities and ensuring compliance with transportation regulations. Further investigations are underway to identify any additional individuals involved in the racket.
