NCST Asks Himachal to Fast-Track Forest Rights Act Cases

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) chairman Antar Singh Arya on Wednesday directed the Himachal Pradesh government to expedite the disposal of cases under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) in tribal areas. This move aims to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their rightful entitlements without unnecessary delays.

Review of Tribal Development Issues

Arya, accompanied by commission members Nirupam Chakma and Asha Lakra, reviewed various issues concerning tribal development during a meeting with senior state government officials in Shimla. The meeting was part of the commission's two-day visit to the state.

Directions for Strengthening Services

Following a detailed assessment of departmental initiatives, Arya issued directions to further strengthen public services and infrastructure in tribal areas. He emphasized the need for improved implementation of welfare schemes.

Positive Health Report

The NCST chairman noted with satisfaction that no cases of Sickle Cell Anemia have been reported from Himachal Pradesh's tribal regions, unlike in several other states. This reflects the effectiveness of health measures in the region.

Commendable Progress in Tribal Development

Arya stated that despite challenging geographical conditions, Himachal Pradesh has made commendable progress in tribal development. He expressed satisfaction over improvements in education, healthcare, road connectivity, electricity, and drinking water supply in tribal areas.
