In a significant move to address structural concerns, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched an unprecedented geotechnical evaluation exercise along the crucial NH-66 corridor in Kerala. This initiative represents one of the most extensive soil and structural investigations ever undertaken on a national highway project in the country.

The authority has mobilized eighteen specialized geotechnical agencies to conduct detailed soil investigations. These probes will focus on 378 specific locations linked to various structures and reinforced soil (RS) walls. The scope encompasses the entire stretch of NH-66 within the state, covering 18 different projects that include completed sections, areas currently under construction, and projects yet to begin.
This comprehensive approach ensures no part of the vital corridor is left unexamined. According to an official NHAI statement, the findings from these rigorous field and laboratory studies will form the basis for a complete re-evaluation of the design and construction methodologies used for all RS walls along the highway.
