A tragic incident occurred in Noida's Phase 2 on Saturday, where a five-year-old boy lost his life after a heavy iron gate collapsed on him. The child, identified as Navdeep, was swinging on the gate outside his house in Gejha village when the structure suddenly gave way, causing severe head injuries.
Details of the Incident
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Diksha Singh, the incident took place around 9:15 am. Navdeep was playing near the main entrance of his house and climbed onto one side of the large iron gate installed at the entrance. Suddenly, the gate gave way, and the entire structure fell on him. The boy yelled for help when he realized he was trapped.
Rescue Efforts
CCTV footage captured by a nearby camera shows residents immediately rushing to help. It took his family and neighbors approximately 40 seconds to lift the gate and rescue the boy. Navdeep was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police Response and Community Concerns
Police stated that no complaint has been filed in the case so far. Locals reported that the gate was old and its hinges had been weakened due to rust and poor maintenance. Residents emphasized that this accident highlights the need for regular safety checks of heavy gates and grills installed in residential areas, especially where children are present.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by poorly maintained structures in residential neighborhoods. Authorities are urged to conduct safety inspections to prevent such tragedies in the future.
