Nagpur: The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Friday staged a protest outside the office of Nagpur University vice-chancellor Manali Kshirsagar against COEMPT Edu Tek, the company handling examination works for the university. NSUI, which has already filed a series of RTI applications seeking details about the firm's appointment, demanded transparency in the decision-making process and accountability from the university administration.
The union alleged that COEMPT's handling of examinations has adversely affected students. It also claimed that the firm had previously faced blacklisting and controversies elsewhere.
Activist Ajit Singh told TOI that the protest was also directed against what he described as irregularities in the university. "A large number of students have suffered because of delayed results, subject mismatches, technical glitches and other examination-related issues," he said.
Dev Kyawal, secretary, NSUI Maharashtra, said. "On what grounds was this company hired? Why were the views of student representatives ignored?".
NSUI has sought complete disclosure of the tender process, publication of a comprehensive white paper detailing corrective measures undertaken by NU, and compensation and remedial support for affected students. The organisation also demanded constitution of a statutory Student Council under the office of the VC, arguing that policies affecting lakhs of students should not be implemented without consultation with elected students' representatives.
