Ahmedabad: In a significant demolition drive at Isanpur's Amba lake, teams from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) South Zone estate department on Friday demolished over 160 illegal temporary and permanent structures. Officials stated that the operation cleared more than 26,000 square meters of lake land.
Details of the Drive
Officials reported, "The department has initiated a campaign to demolish illegal constructions around lakes in the city's eastern part. On Friday, an operation was conducted at Amba lake, situated on Final Plot No. 59 of Town Planning Scheme No. 54 in Isanpur under Lambha ward. Notices had been issued to individuals who had erected these temporary or permanent structures within the lake's boundary."
The drive commenced at 8 am under police protection, with officials from the South Zone estate department, health department, and fire and emergency services present. The structures were divided into two blocks, and approximately 160 were demolished, clearing a total area of 26,305 square meters. Additionally, encroachments were removed from a 1,444 square meter reserved plot adjacent to the lake.
Future Plans
Following the demolition, the AMC plans to develop the lake area. This initiative is part of a broader effort to restore and beautify water bodies in the city.
