Panchkula Residents Demand Refund of Garbage Charges After MC Waiver
Panchkula Residents Demand Refund of Garbage Charges

The Citizens Welfare Association (CWA) of Panchkula has raised serious objections to the Municipal Corporation's decision to waive garbage collection charges for certain financial years, even though thousands of residents had already paid the fees. The association has urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Director General of Urban Local Bodies Mukul Kumar, Panchkula Mayor Sham Lal Bansal, and MC Commissioner Vinay Kumar to refund the money collected from residents for garbage collection charges for the years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26.

MC Waives Charges Despite Majority Payments

According to the CWA, the MC waived garbage collection charges for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25. Additionally, the civic body reportedly extended the waiver to 2025-26, despite more than 80% of residents having already paid their dues. This has created a situation where some residents have benefited from the waiver, while others who complied with the payment requirements have not received any refund or adjustment.

CWA Alleges Inequality

CWA President SK Nayar alleged that the policy has created inequality among residents. Those who paid the charges have not received refunds or adjustments, while others have benefited from the waiver. The association has demanded immediate action to rectify the situation and ensure fairness for all residents.
