Pipeline burst in Dhar disrupts water supply to 28 villages

A major disruption in water supply occurred on Saturday morning when a main pipeline of a local tap-water scheme burst near Thana Dam in Dhar's Bagh region. The high-pressure rupture created a massive water fountain that flooded the adjacent road and reached the Bagni river bridge, temporarily halting vehicular traffic.

Incident Details

The incident took place around 10 am when water was released for the daily supply schedule. Due to the sudden inundation and strong water currents on the road, commuters, particularly motorcyclists, were forced to stop, leading to traffic queues.

Impact on Water Supply

The pipeline failure impacted the rural water supply, completely disrupting distribution to several villages like Rusavla and Bamkuan. Managed by Jal Nigam, this specific tap-water scheme utilizes resources from Thana Dam to supply drinking water to a network of 28 villages across the Bagh block.

Response and Repair

Following alerts from local residents, technical operators shut off the main valves from the dam to contain the flooding. Praveen Jamra, official in-charge of the tap-water scheme, confirmed that emergency repair work was initiated immediately after the supply was isolated. He said that maintenance teams were on-site and regular water supply to the affected villages would be restored sequentially as soon as the pipeline alignment was repaired and tested.
