PMC Woman Employee Assaulted During Census Duty in Pune

A woman employee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and members of a census survey team were allegedly assaulted while performing National Census 2027 duties in Pune’s Minatai Thackeray Colony area, police officials confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Swargate Police Station, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against five identified accused along with several unidentified individuals.

The complainant, a PMC employee with 17 years of service, was serving as an enumerator for the National Census 2027. According to the complaint, on May 27, the woman visited the residence of Vikas Navnath More in Lane No. 14 of Minatai Thackeray Colony to collect census-related information. The family allegedly refused to cooperate and obstructed government work. The complainant stated that she and another enumerator were verbally abused during the argument.

Police reported that the situation escalated the following day when a PMC team, accompanied by supervisors and other enumerators, returned to the locality to complete the census process and resolve the dispute. It is alleged that the accused attacked the team with kicks, punches, and stones as the officials were leaving the area.
