In a significant move to address the housing needs of employed women, Prayagraj district authorities have finalized land allocation for a proposed 500-bed working women's hostel. This development marks a crucial step toward improving residential facilities and safety for working women in the region.
New Location Finalized After Initial Setbacks
The Uttar Pradesh government had previously announced plans to establish a large-capacity hostel in Prayagraj to accommodate working women. Initial proposals suggested land near the airport, but technical complications prevented the site from being finalized.
Following this setback, the Department of Women and Child Welfare formally wrote to the District Magistrate requesting an alternative location. In response, SDM Sadar Abhishek Kumar Singh was assigned the crucial task of identifying suitable land for the important project.
Sohbatiyabagh Emerges as Ideal Location
A survey team from the revenue department conducted thorough inspections and identified the Sohbatiyabagh area as meeting all necessary requirements. The selected site is adjacent to the railway line near the route leading toward Bairhana.
District Programme Officer Sarvjeet Singh confirmed that the Sohbatiyabagh location offers multiple advantages, including its central position within the city and meeting the essential area requirement of approximately 650 square metres needed for the women's hostel construction.
Interestingly, the survey revealed that approximately 1,000 square metres of government-owned land was available at the location—significantly more than the required 650 square metres. However, this abundance of space led to another development when the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation also submitted a request for the same land to carry out its own construction activities.
Balancing Multiple Development Needs
Authorities have devised a practical solution to accommodate both departments' requirements. The identified land parcel will be appropriately divided between the women's hostel project and the municipal corporation's activities, ensuring that both development initiatives can proceed without delay.
The formal identification and allocation process has been completed, with the land officially shown to the Department of Women and Child Welfare. This clearance paves the way for the actual construction of the facility that promises to significantly enhance safety and accessibility for working women seeking accommodation in Prayagraj.
The 500-bed working women's hostel represents a substantial investment in women's welfare and urban infrastructure. Once operational, it will provide secure, convenient housing for hundreds of employed women, contributing to their professional growth and personal safety in the city.
