Prayagraj: In a significant move to curb drunk driving, overloading, and the use of pressure horns without high security number plates, the range police conducted a special checking drive on Saturday night in Pratapgarh and Fatehpur districts. Approximately 92 vehicle owners were found violating norms, resulting in fines exceeding Rs 6.50 lakh.
Pratapgarh Checking Drive
A team from Pratapgarh police carried out checks at the Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway. They caught four truck drivers under the influence of alcohol, each fined Rs 10,000. Two vehicle owners were challaned for using modified silencers, also fined Rs 10,000 each. Furthermore, 18 owners were fined for using pressure horns (Rs 1.80 lakh), two for hooters/sirens (Rs 20,000), and 27 for not installing high security number plates, from whom Rs 1.35 lakh was collected. A vehicle owner using black film was fined Rs 2,500.
Police teams checked 241 drivers and vehicles using breath analyzers at the toll plaza. In total, 54 vehicle owners were challaned, and compounding fees amounting to Rs 3,97,500 were collected.
Fatehpur Checking Drive
In Fatehpur district, police conducted checks at Badauri and Katoghan toll plazas, fining 20 truck drivers Rs 10,000 each for drunk driving. Additionally, Rs 1.40 lakh was collected from 18 other drivers for violating traffic norms.
Police Appeal
A senior police officer stated, "The police has appealed to motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. Similar strict action will continue to be taken in the future against those who violate traffic laws."
