Prayagraj: Traffic Diversion Plan for Shastri Bridge Repair
Prayagraj district traffic police authorities on Sunday unveiled a comprehensive diversion plan for heavy vehicles and deployed additional traffic police forces in preparation for the closure of one lane on the Shastri Bridge. The lane from Daraganj to Jhunsi will be shut down starting June 3 to facilitate repair work, as confirmed by officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Neeraj Pandey stated, 'Two-wheelers and light vehicles will be permitted to use the other lane. Duties of traffic policemen and home guards have been assigned to regulate traffic effectively.' The repair work will first target the Daraganj-to-Jhunsi route, with traffic restrictions expected to last approximately one and a half months.
Small vehicles and four-wheelers will be redirected to use the lane currently designated for traffic moving from Jhunsi to Daraganj. During the repair period, the movement of buses, electric buses, trucks, dumpers, tractors, and other heavy vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes from June 3 to July 15.
The Public Works Department (PWD), Construction Division, had been attempting to undertake repairs on the Shastri Bridge for the past two years but faced delays due to various administrative hurdles. The estimated cost of the bridge repair work is around Rs 15 crore.
