Pune: District collector Jitendra Dudi has issued an order banning the entry of heavy vehicles in Pune city from Tuesday till June 24. The orders were issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, imposing a temporary ban on the entry of heavy, oversized, and multi-axle vehicles within the jurisdiction of the Pune City police commissionerate.
Police Commissioner's Statement
Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Monday said, “We will implement the ban and the heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the city roads.”
Alternative Routes for Heavy Vehicles
The heavy and oversized vehicles travelling through Pune city to reach other cities will not be allowed to enter the city limits. Alternative routes have been designated for such vehicles via Solapur, Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Saswad, Chakan, Shikrapur, Talegaon, Jejuri, Supe and other stretches.
Permission for Loading and Unloading
Vehicles that need to unload or load goods within the city and then proceed elsewhere, as well as vehicles providing essential services, have been directed to obtain permission from the traffic branch at least 72 hours in advance and use the designated alternative routes between 11pm and 6am.
Exemptions for Essential Commodities
However, vehicles carrying essential commodities and services such as petrol, diesel, milk, agricultural produce and other essential supplies have been exempted from this restriction.
