Rajasthan Govt Colleges Ordered to Conduct Pre-Monsoon Safety Inspections
Rajasthan Govt Colleges Ordered Pre-Monsoon Safety Inspections

The college education department in Rajasthan has issued a directive to all government college principals to conduct comprehensive safety inspections of their buildings ahead of the monsoon season. The instructions emphasize immediate cleaning of rooftops to prevent water stagnation and ensure that rainwater drainage systems, including gutters and pipes, as well as sewage systems within the campus, are thoroughly cleaned.

Funding for Repairs

College administrations have been advised to source funds for urgent repairs from various sources, including MP and MLA funds, local bodies such as municipal corporations or councils, the state disaster management fund, college development committees, or student funds.

Electrical Safety Measures

The guidelines, issued on Monday, mandate a thorough inspection of all electrical wiring, switchboards, and generator rooms to prevent short circuits during rains. Any structural defects like damaged roofs, exposed reinforcement bars, or open or damaged electrical switchboards must be repaired immediately. The department stressed that there should be no risk of fire or electric shock from electrical sparks. Additionally, all outdoor lighting fixtures must be properly waterproofed.

Unsafe Buildings to Be Vacated

The department has strictly instructed that classes or any activities must not be conducted in rooms where cracks have appeared in roof slabs, ceiling plaster has deteriorated, or dampness is evident on ceilings and walls. Such buildings or specific sections must be clearly marked as “unsafe” with notice boards and vacated. Robust measures should be in place to ensure no movement or access by students, staff, or any other individuals is permitted in these sections.
