Donations for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya have crossed the Rs 3,000 crore mark, according to the latest figures from the temple trust. The funds have been collected from devotees across the country and abroad, with contributions ranging from small amounts to large donations from corporate houses and wealthy individuals.
How the Money Is Being Used
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which oversees the temple construction, has outlined the allocation of funds. A significant portion is being spent on the temple’s construction, including the use of high-quality stone and marble, intricate carvings, and the installation of the idol of Lord Ram. Other expenses include infrastructure development around the temple, such as roads, parking lots, and facilities for pilgrims. The trust has also set aside funds for the maintenance of the temple and its surrounding areas, as well as for charitable activities like free food distribution and medical camps.
Tax Paid on Donations
The trust has clarified that it has paid all applicable taxes on the donations received. According to trust officials, the donations are treated as income, and the trust has been paying income tax on the interest earned from the deposited funds. Additionally, any goods or services procured for the construction attract GST, which is being paid regularly. The trust has also filed its tax returns on time, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
The trust’s transparency in financial matters has been praised by many, with regular audits conducted by reputed firms. The trust has also made its financial reports public, allowing devotees to see how their contributions are being utilized.
Future Plans
With the funds already exceeding the initial estimates, the trust plans to enhance the temple complex further. This includes the development of a museum, a research center, and a library dedicated to the life and teachings of Lord Ram. The trust also aims to create a green belt around the temple with gardens and water bodies, making it a sustainable pilgrimage site.
The Ram Temple is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the consecration ceremony scheduled for January 2027. The trust has assured that all funds will be used judiciously and that no deviation from the original plan will occur.
