Kottayam: Forest minister Shibu Baby John stated that fixed deposits of Rs 2.5 lakh each will be transferred to the accounts of the two children of Mariamma, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a wild elephant attack in Sooryanelli, Idukki. He further assured that the children will be provided full protection until they reach the age of 18.
Minister's Statement After Hospital Visit
The minister was addressing reporters following his visit to Mariamma’s son Rakshan, 11, who was also injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Tuesday.
“The government will cover the children’s education expenses. Support, including the ration system, will be ensured until they are 18. The children will receive Rs 5,000 each month,” John said.
Appointment of Mentor
The minister also mentioned that a senior official from the area where the children reside has been appointed as a mentor to take care of their needs.
