The Shikshak Sena has demanded the immediate transfer of secondary education officer Bhausaheb Karekar, citing administrative irregularities and prolonged delays in handling critical education-related matters since January 2024. In a formal complaint submitted to Maharashtra education minister Dada Bhuse, Shikshak Sena state vice-president Sambhaji Shirsat alleged that Karekar committed several irregularities in teacher adjustment, transfer approvals, compassionate appointments, and other administrative processes.
Complaint Alleges Deliberate Delays
According to Shirsat, the organization's complaint has been taken seriously, leading to directives for a detailed inquiry into the allegations and a proposal for disciplinary action against the officer. The complaint states that Karekar deliberately delayed files concerning teacher adjustments, transfers, and compassionate appointments, causing significant hardship to schools and teachers across Pune district. These delays, Shirsat claimed, were used to facilitate corrupt practices.
Previous Allegations by Former Leader of Opposition
The complaint also references an earlier representation submitted in December 2025 by former leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar to the education commissioner. In that complaint, Wadettiwar alleged over 250 irregularities in Karekar's functioning and sought his suspension. He further alleged that large sums of money were accepted in connection with some disputed cases.
Shirsat added that several proposals involving widows seeking compassionate appointments and other eligible candidates have remained pending for years. Many deserving candidates have suffered due to the officer's administrative approach, he said, demanding strict action and immediate transfer.
Allegations of Working from Schools
The Shikshak Sena leader also alleged that Karekar frequently conducts official work from schools instead of being available in his office, making it difficult for the public and stakeholders to access him. An inquiry into the allegations concerning Karekar's functioning is currently being conducted by deputy director of education Dr Suchita Patekar, according to the complaint. Repeated attempts to obtain Karekar's response were unsuccessful.
