In a swift operation, police in Odisha's Sundargarh district arrested six individuals on Sunday for allegedly conspiring to commit a dacoity at the Kunmuru petrol pump under the Rajgangpur police station limits. The arrests were made late Saturday night following a tip-off received during routine night patrolling.
Details of the Arrest
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team conducted a raid at a suspected location and successfully apprehended all six accused before they could execute their alleged plan. The operation prevented what could have been a serious crime in the area.
Seizure of Weapons and Materials
During the raid, law enforcement officers recovered a cache of weapons and incriminating materials from the possession of the accused. The seized items include a country-made firearm, a motorcycle, a sword, two iron knives, and two iron rods. These items are believed to have been intended for use in the planned dacoity.
Legal Proceedings
The Rajgangpur police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 310(4) and 310(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 25 of the Arms Act. The arrests were made on Sunday, and the accused are currently in police custody.
Investigation and Criminal Background
Police officers have stated that the arrested individuals have prior criminal records and are reportedly involved in several cases registered under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, IPC, and BNS. Their criminal antecedents are being verified as part of the ongoing investigation to determine if the group is linked to any other criminal activities in the region.
Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of their criminal network and to ensure that all possible angles are explored. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
