A multi-storey building collapsed in South Delhi's Mehrauli area on Saturday evening, triggering a massive rescue operation. The incident took place in the Saeedulajab locality, where emergency teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) rushed to the site.
Rescue Efforts Underway
According to officials, at least nine people have been rescued from the debris so far, while search operations continue amid fears that more individuals may still be trapped beneath the rubble. The Delhi Fire Service received an alert around 7:44 pm and deployed six fire tenders along with additional manpower to assist in the rescue operation.

South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal stated that the collapsed structure was an old building. The debris fell onto a nearby structure that was reportedly being used as a canteen for medical students. Authorities created a green corridor to facilitate the smooth movement of ambulances as rescuers worked through the night to locate survivors.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. Officials have emphasized that the priority remains saving lives and locating anyone still trapped under the debris. The rescue operation is ongoing, with teams using specialized equipment to carefully clear the rubble.
