The Tamil Nadu government on Monday executed a significant reshuffle within the state bureaucracy, involving the transfer and appointment of several senior officers across crucial departments. The changes span municipal administration, energy, transport, water resources, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), and the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
Key Transfers in Municipal Administration and Water Supply
According to a government order, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who served as additional chief secretary to the government for rural development and panchayat raj, has been reassigned as additional chief secretary to the government for municipal administration and water supply. He succeeds D Karthikeyan in this role. Meanwhile, Dr G S Sameeran, previously managing director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), has been appointed as the new commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation, replacing J Kumaragurubaran.
Changes in Revenue, Cooperation, and Disaster Management
P Amudha, additional chief secretary to the government for revenue and disaster management, has been transferred to the cooperation, food, and consumer protection department, replacing K S Palanisamy. Satyabrata Sahoo, principal secretary for youth welfare and sports development, has been moved to the water resources department. Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru, principal secretary for transport, now leads the public works department while retaining additional charge of natural resources.
Energy and Transport Department Appointments
Anil Meshram, principal secretary and managing director of Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited, has been appointed principal secretary to the energy department. M Vallalar, commissioner for Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils, has been posted as secretary to the transport department.
Finance and Rural Development Shifts
Prashant M Wadnere, secretary to the government (expenditure) in the finance department, has been transferred to the rural development and panchayat raj department. G K Arun Sundar Thayalan, special secretary to the government in finance, has been appointed inspector general of registration.
Appointments in Chennai Civic Bodies and State Agencies
The reshuffle also included key appointments in Chennai's civic bodies and state agencies. T Anand, commissioner of Adi Dravidar Welfare, has been posted as managing director of Metrowater. A R Rahul Nadh, director of environment and climate change, has been appointed member-secretary of CMDA. Dr M Aarthi has been named managing director of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Ltd. Additionally, Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, inspector general of registration, has been posted as managing director of the TWAD Board.
