The Tarn Taran city police successfully dismantled an eight-member drug trafficking gang by arresting two of its members during a targeted operation conducted on Thursday evening. The raid was carried out based on specific intelligence received by Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh of the city police.
Operation Details
Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh had received credible information that members of the gang were convening at a closed petrol pump located on the old bypass in Tarn Taran. The meeting was allegedly focused on planning and discussing drug trafficking activities. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh conducted a raid at the designated location and apprehended two suspects on the spot.
Arrested Accused
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhdev Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Kumbharkan Chowk, Muradpur, Tarn Taran, and Sukhwinder Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Mohalla Jandpir, Muradpur, Tarn Taran. Both are believed to be key operatives within the gang.
Absconding Suspects
However, the remaining six members of the gang managed to escape from the scene during the raid. The police have identified the absconding suspects as:
- Ranjot Singh of Aladinpur village
- Sandeep Singh of Guru Ka Khuh on Bugga Road, Tarn Taran
- Bikramjit Singh of Jandoke Sarhali village
- Shamsher Singh of Qazikot village
- Harjinder Singh of Piddi village
- Surjit Singh of Noordi village
Legal Action
Sub-Inspector Jaspal Singh, who led the raiding team, confirmed that a case has been registered against all eight accused under Section 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the fugitives, and efforts are underway to track them down. The operation marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking in the region.
