A joint delegation of teachers' unions, led by the Democratic Teachers Front Punjab, met Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain on Monday and submitted a memorandum alleging they were being forced to discharge duties for the economic and drug census.
Allegations of Forced Participation
The memorandum highlighted that census duties were meant to be voluntary. However, some lower-level offices had been compelling employees, including teachers, to participate against their will.
Deputy Commissioner's Response
The DC issued directions to officials to take action in connection with the demands. The delegation appreciated the prompt response and hoped for a resolution.
The teachers emphasized that such forced duties disrupt their primary responsibilities and affect the quality of education. They urged the administration to ensure that census duties remain voluntary and that teachers are not burdened with additional tasks.
The meeting concluded with the DC assuring the delegation that their concerns would be addressed appropriately.
