Telangana BC Commission Hails Cabinet Nod on Caste Name Changes

The Telangana Commission for Backward Classes has expressed its happiness over the state cabinet approving its recommendations on two key issues: changing the names of several castes considered derogatory and approving the list of eligible nomadic communities for central government schemes such as SEED.

Commission Chairman's Statement

Commission Chairman G Niranjan stated that the recommendations include renaming the "Dommara" caste to Gadavanshiya, removing Pichakuntla and retaining Vamsharaj, removing the Shudra caste associated with Tammali, adding the term Shivakshatriya to the Budabukkala caste, including Dhobi as a synonym for the Chakali caste, including Meru as a synonym for the Mera caste, and prioritizing the name Veerabhadriya caste while rearranging the order of its associated castes Veeramushti and Nethikothala in the BC list.

Commission Members' Response

The chairman, along with members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Tirumalagiri Surender, and Balalakshmi Rangu, expressed their happiness over the government accepting the recommendations aimed at the welfare of nomadic and marginalized communities in the state.
