Hyderabad: Vehicle owners in Telangana now have up to two months from the date of Temporary Registration (TR) to reserve a fancy or special registration number for their newly purchased vehicles. This provides a significant relaxation from the earlier timeline linked to the validity of temporary registration.
Extended Window for Fancy Numbers
Under the existing VAHAN system, a Temporary Registration issued to a new vehicle is valid for 30 days. Previously, vehicle owners were required to complete the permanent registration process and reserve their preferred fancy number within this period. However, in a move aimed at improving convenience, the Telangana Transport Department has extended the reservation window for fancy and special registration numbers to 60 days from the date of issuance of the Temporary Registration.
The extension is expected to benefit buyers who opt for a fancy number while purchasing a vehicle but are unable to immediately reserve a specific number of their choice. The department has advised vehicle owners who selected the fancy-number option at the time of purchase but have not yet booked a number to complete the process at the earliest.
Automatic Allotment After Two Months
Under the revised arrangement, if a vehicle owner fails to reserve a fancy or special registration number within two months of obtaining Temporary Registration, the VAHAN system will automatically assign a regular registration number to the vehicle. The department clarified that the automatic allotment will take place immediately after the expiry of the two-month period. Once a random registration number is generated, the vehicle owner will no longer be eligible to claim a fancy number against the pending request.
This change is designed to streamline the registration process and reduce delays. Vehicle owners are encouraged to act promptly to secure their desired numbers within the new timeframe.
