Thane Tops Maharashtra in Lok Adalat with 29,392 Cases

Thane district has once again demonstrated its commitment to swift justice by securing the top rank in Maharashtra for resolving the highest number of cases during the National Lok Adalat. As many as 29,392 cases were settled, with settlements amounting to Rs 63.42 crore, including several disputes that had been pending for decades.

Record-Breaking Performance

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary, Ravindra S Pajankar, announced that Thane district topped the state for the fifth consecutive time. On Saturday, the Lok Adalat successfully resolved 12,186 pending cases and 17,206 pre-litigation disputes. Pajankar emphasized that the Lok Adalat and mediation process are the most effective means to permanently and quickly settle judicial disputes, saving both time and money for litigants.

Resolution of Old Cases

A significant achievement was the resolution of 567 extremely old cases, some of which had been pending for over 30 years. This reflects the effectiveness of the Lok Adalat in addressing long-standing legal issues that had burdened the judicial system.

Motor Accident Compensation

In a major relief for victims' families, 120 motor accident compensation claims were settled, providing immediate financial support of Rs 15.64 crore. These settlements help families cope with the loss of loved ones and reduce their financial strain.

Other Cases Resolved

The Lok Adalat also disposed of 30 matrimonial disputes, 6,983 traffic challans, and 1,146 cheque bounce cases. Additionally, more than 8,700 accused in minor criminal cases confessed to their crimes, contributing Rs 81.19 lakh in fines. This comprehensive approach ensures that a wide range of legal issues are addressed efficiently.

The success of the Lok Adalat in Thane district underscores the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in reducing the burden on courts and providing timely justice to citizens.
