Chennai: A day after the suspension of the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL) chief engineer P Chandrasekaran, electricity minister CTR Nirmal Kumar on Thursday confirmed that chief financial controller V Kasi of the financial wing of the power distribution corporation has also been placed under suspension for malpractices.
Official Note on Suspension
An official note on the suspension stated that Kasi was interfering in the administrative process of other wings. However, it did not provide specific details of the offences leading to his suspension. Official sources revealed that he was deciding to whom certain approvals should be given.
Action Against Retired Official
The press note also mentioned that action has been initiated against S Mangalanathan, who recently retired as director (technical) of TNGECL, as inquiries revealed his involvement in the alleged malpractices.
Minister's Statement
Electricity minister CTR Nirmal Kumar said that a departmental inquiry is underway to fix the charges against them and added that suitable action would be initiated based on the outcome of the proceedings.
“Kasi’s name has figured in the transformer purchase scam as well and the CBI will take over the probe. There is no place for any corrupt officers and brokers inside the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board premises. Each and every process of all wings, right from coal procurement to transformer purchase, will be done as per procedure. A portal will be developed to make every tender process transparent, giving no room for corruption,” he said.
Background
The suspension of these officials is part of a broader crackdown on corruption within the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. The development of a new portal for tender processes aims to enhance transparency and prevent malpractices in procurement and other operations.
