Trichy Police Launch Singappen Force for Women Safety

Trichy: The police on Wednesday commenced operations of the Singappen special force teams across the district. A total of six teams have been deployed, with four patrolling Trichy city and two covering rural areas. The primary objective of this force is to ensure the safety and security of women and children.

Inauguration and Flag-Off

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the initiative in Chennai on Tuesday. In Trichy, City Police Commissioner N. Kamini and District Superintendent of Police Dongare Pravin Umesh flagged off the special teams and vehicles at their respective offices.

Deployment and Patrol Timing

In the city, the north and south divisions each have two teams. Each division operates two shifts: one team patrols from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the other from 2 p.m. until midnight. This ensures continuous coverage during peak hours.

Team Composition and Equipment

Each team comprises a woman sub-inspector, two woman constables, and a male driver. The personnel wear a dedicated uniform of navy blue shirts paired with khaki trousers. They are equipped with body cameras, batons, and transceivers. Their vehicles are fitted with GPS for real-time tracking and coordination.

Vehicles and Supervision

The city police received two new vehicles to support the four teams, while the district police received one vehicle. R. Vadivel, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), will serve as the supervising nodal officer for the city teams. For the rural teams, S. Sandhya, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP-DCB), will act as the nodal officer.

The Singappen force is a dedicated unit focused on enhancing safety for women and children, with a visible presence and rapid response capability. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve public security.
