Bengaluru: In a tragic incident on Monday afternoon, two children of a daily-wager couple were charred to death in their makeshift shed at Narayanapura, Kottanur. The deceased have been identified as D Arjun and D Asha, children of Durgappa and Savitri. The parents were at work at an under-construction site when the fire broke out around 1:30 pm, according to police.
Details of the Incident
The children's grandmother was in the bathroom when the two were playing in the hall. Suddenly, a fire erupted and spread rapidly. Neighbors and others attempted to rescue the children but were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the flames and smoke. Arjun died instantly from burns and smoke inhalation, while Asha succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, an investigating officer said.
Possible Cause of Fire
Scene of crime officers (SOCO) have suggested that the fire may have been ignited by an inflammable material such as a cigarette lighter or mosquito coil. Officers noted the presence of lighters and scattered pieces of coils at the scene, indicating that one of these items likely caused the blaze.
