Two cousins drown in Punjab village water reservoir

Two young cousins drowned in a village water reservoir in Maujgarh, Abohar subdivision, Fazilka district, Punjab, on Saturday. The bodies of six-year-old Sidhant and his eight-year-old cousin Lovepreet were recovered early Sunday morning and sent to the government hospital in Abohar for post-mortem examination.

Children went missing after playing

According to family members, the two children left home around 11 am on Saturday to play in the village but did not return. As hours passed, the family grew anxious and began searching, soon joined by other villagers. The search continued late into the night.

In the early hours of Sunday, the bodies of both children were discovered floating in the village water reservoir. Sources said Sidhant was the only brother among five sisters, while Lovepreet was the daughter of his paternal uncle. Both fathers are farmers by occupation.

Gloom descends on Maujgarh

A pall of gloom descended over Maujgarh village after the tragic incident. The entire community was shocked by the sudden loss of two young lives. The bodies were handed over to the families after post-mortem, and last rites were performed later on Sunday.
