Trichy: Two people died in separate road accidents near Vaiyampatti and Pettavaithalai in Trichy district. The first incident occurred around 5am on Friday when D Palaniyappan, 55, from Muthugapatti village in Namakkal district, was driving his truck from Karur to Trichy. After reaching Pettavaithalai, he parked his vehicle on the roadside. While crossing the road, an unidentified car travelling in the same direction struck him and fled. Palaniyappan sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Pettavaithalai police arrived at the location, recovered the body, and sent it to Trichy government hospital for autopsy. A case has been registered.
In the second accident, M Prem, 24, from Thanneerpandalpalayam in Karur district, was riding his motorcycle towards Vaiyampatti on Thursday night. While passing through Palayakottai near Vaiyampatti, his vehicle collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction, resulting in severe injuries. Vaiyampatti police arrived at the spot and rushed him to Manapparai government hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival. A case has been registered, and the tractor driver, A Kulanthai, 46, from Manpathai in Manapparai taluk, has been arrested.
Authorities have urged the public to provide any information regarding the hit-and-run car driver. The police are investigating both incidents further. These accidents highlight the need for improved road safety measures in the district.
