Kolkata: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has inaugurated four new Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs) in West Bengal to address the growing demand for Aadhaar-related services, including enrolment and updates. These centres are located in Sonarpur, Chinsurah, Burdwan, and Purulia, bringing the total number of ASKs in the state to 12.
Expansion Plans
According to a government announcement on Friday, plans are underway to establish a total of 22 such centres across the state. Previously, ASKs were operational in Kolkata, Howrah, Asansol, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Malda, Siliguri, and Nadia.
First Centres in Bengal
The first UIDAI-operated ASK in the state was set up at Sector V in 2019, followed by another centre at Esplanade two years later. Akhilesh Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director General (DDG) of UIDAI Regional Office, Ranchi, stated, “The new ASKs are expected to significantly improve accessibility, reduce travel time for residents, and facilitate faster delivery of Aadhaar-related services across Bengal.”
Operational Details
All these centres operate from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, seven days a week, assisting citizens in obtaining Aadhaar services within their own districts. An official remarked, “The new centres have been added to strengthen Aadhaar service delivery and cater to the increasing demand for enrolment and update services across the state.”
