Under-construction building collapses in Idukki, no casualties reported
Under-construction building collapses in Idukki

A four-storey building under construction at Pambanar near Peermade in Idukki district collapsed on Wednesday night, officials said. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the building was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Incident Details

The building, owned by Agnel, a resident of Pambanar, came crashing down around 8:30 pm. Preliminary investigations indicate that unscientific construction practices and structural deficiencies may have led to the collapse. A large quantity of soil had been piled beside the structure to level the ground between the building and the adjacent road.

Role of Heavy Rainfall

Continuous heavy rainfall in the region over the past few days is believed to have loosened the soil, weakening the foundation and ultimately causing the building to give way. The area has been experiencing persistent downpours, which may have exacerbated the instability.
