A tragic accident in Noida's Phase 2 area claimed the life of a 22-year-old man and left another critically injured after their motorcycle collided with an uprooted electricity pole on Friday night. The incident occurred near Panchsheel Balak Inter College, where strong winds and heavy rain had caused the pole to fall and block the road.

Police received an alert about the accident around 3 a.m. and dispatched a team to the scene. The two youths, identified as Vishal Kumar and Anurag Thakur, were found critically injured and were immediately taken to a private hospital in Sector 137 for treatment. Kumar, a resident of Khatola village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He was employed with an oral health company in Advant Tower, Sector 141, and lived in rented accommodation in Bhangel. Thakur, a resident of Jeetram Colony in Sector 81, remains under treatment, with doctors monitoring his condition.

Phase 2 police officials stated that the exact circumstances of the accident are under investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events. The death of the young professional has caused grief among his family members, who rushed to the hospital upon receiving news. Police have sent the body for post-mortem after completing legal formalities.
This incident has reignited concerns over the maintenance of electricity poles in Noida and Greater Noida. Local residents reported that several trees and poles were uprooted during the storm, posing a major threat to commuters, especially at night. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, including a pole collapse on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway in May 2025 that damaged several vehicles. Residents also flagged leaning poles near the Sector 101 Metro station in June last year.
